Global Energy Efficiency Alliance Launched To Enhance Energy Consumption And Sustainability By 2030

The UAE Cabinet has recently approved the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance (GEEA), as announced by Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure. GEEA's primary goal is to enhance global energy efficiency rates annually, aiming to double them by 2030. This initiative aligns with the UAE's 'UAE Consensus' from COP28, focusing on improving energy consumption worldwide.

Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, highlighted the importance of energy efficiency in achieving the Paris Agreement goals and the UAE Consensus. He stated that GEEA's success in mobilising international efforts will significantly contribute to climate action and a sustainable future for humanity.

UAE Launches Global Energy Efficiency Alliance

The Alliance aims to implement unified policies and criteria to boost sectoral performance. It will also foster international cooperation to advance knowledge exchange and enable developing countries to adopt energy efficiency solutions. A global platform will be provided for sharing successful technologies and initiatives in energy efficiency.

Minister Al Mazrouei emphasised that GEEA will lead a significant transformation in global energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions and conserving natural resources. He said, "The launch of GEEA reflects the UAE’s steadfast commitment to supporting global efforts towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), advancing collective climate action, and preserving natural resources."

Minister Al Mazrouei invited countries and international corporations to join GEEA, stressing that collective action is essential for progress. The Alliance aims to provide innovative solutions and advanced technologies to help countries achieve higher energy efficiency rates, especially in regions facing funding and technological challenges.

He added that GEEA serves as a global platform for sharing experiences and knowledge, allowing members to leverage success stories in enhancing energy efficiency. This collaboration will help develop unified tools to measure progress in related initiatives.

UAE's Role in Leading the Initiative

The UAE plans to play a leading role within GEEA by sharing best practices and presenting public-private partnership models. The country's involvement stems from a global willingness to increase energy consumption efficiency. "We aim to provide innovative solutions and cutting-edge technologies that can help countries achieve higher energy efficiency rates," Minister Al Mazrouei noted.

Eng. Sharif Al Olama further explained that the UAE would be at the forefront of sharing expertise in energy efficiency, driving cross-border synergies with state and private sector stakeholders. The country will also offer technical support for member countries to achieve the objectives of the Alliance.

The Alliance also seeks to build national capacities through training on proven energy efficiency measures. By doing so, it aims to drive climate action while contributing significantly towards building a sustainable future for mankind.
