Global Council For Tolerance And Peace Advocates Local Solutions During Geneva Peace Week

Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, participated in a consultative meeting at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. This event, organised by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), was part of Geneva Peace Week and focused on local solutions for peaceful coexistence.

Al Jarwan emphasised that genuine peace must originate from within communities. He stated, "Achieving genuine peace cannot be accomplished through international efforts alone, but must stem from within — from local communities themselves — through schools, homes, youth initiatives and community leadership, and by nurturing the ability to manage differences with respect and understanding."

Promoting Local Solutions for Peace in Geneva

The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace is active in over 100 countries. It collaborates with parliaments, universities, and cultural institutions to promote tolerance and coexistence. The council empowers communities through education, dialogue, and joint parliamentary work.

Al Jarwan also addressed ongoing humanitarian challenges in conflict zones. He noted that despite the end of hostilities, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire. Similar issues persist in other regions worldwide.

He stressed that true peace begins with education that instils respect. Leadership should prioritise dialogue over division. Societies should view diversity as a strength rather than a threat.

"Such tragedies place a moral and humanitarian responsibility on the international community to safeguard human dignity and restore hope," Al Jarwan stated regarding global conflicts.

Collaborating for Refugee Protection

The council is ready to collaborate with UNHCR and other international partners. Their goal is to enhance efforts aimed at protecting refugees, empowering communities, and fostering a culture of peace that transcends borders and religions.

This meeting highlighted the importance of local initiatives in achieving lasting peace. By focusing on education and community leadership, societies can build a foundation for tolerance and understanding.
