Global Cooperation In Humanitarian Work Emphasised At World Governments Summit In Dubai
The Office of Developmental Affairs at the Presidential Court hosted six pivotal sessions during the 12th World Governments Summit in Dubai. Held from 11th to 13th February, the event focused on 'Shaping Future Governments'. These sessions aimed to spark discussions on global humanitarian policies and programmes, emphasising international cooperation and innovative models for sustainable development.
Speakers at the summit included government ministers, CEOs, and global experts. They highlighted successful global initiatives that have improved millions of lives. The discussions centred on creating a better future through significant transformations in communities, education, healthcare, and economies. This approach aims to foster sustained growth and stability worldwide.
The sessions underscored the necessity of partnerships between governments, private institutions, and international organisations. By leveraging these collaborations, innovative solutions to societal challenges can be developed. This approach is crucial for driving progress across all life aspects and establishing principles of international cooperation.
Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, spoke about the UAE's commitment to its people as its greatest asset. "The UAE has prioritised enhancing citizen capabilities and skills, encouraging their contributions across all sectors, particularly the economy," Al Marri stated. "This aligns with the 'We the UAE 2031’ vision, which aims to make the UAE the most prosperous nation within a decade."
Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, discussed sustainable development during her session. She explained that meeting current needs while safeguarding future generations requires robust systems and balanced policies. The 17th Sustainable Development Goal highlights global partnerships' importance in achieving these objectives.
Badr Jafar, Special Envoy for Business and Philanthropy in the UAE, addressed philanthropy's evolving role in a session titled "Redefining Philanthropy: New Models for Global Impact". He stressed that philanthropy should extend beyond traditional charity by investing in long-term change through financial capital, expertise, innovation, and strategic partnerships.
Jafar noted that with an estimated US$2 trillion deployed annually in philanthropic capital and a significant intergenerational wealth transfer underway, there is an unprecedented opportunity to redefine philanthropy’s role in shaping global development. The UAE is uniquely positioned as a hub for philanthropic action due to its ability to convene diverse stakeholders.
The summit also highlighted the need for innovative solutions to societal challenges. Strengthened international development initiatives are essential for leveraging government agencies', private institutions', and international organisations' combined capacities across key humanitarian areas.
The UAE National Experts Program was presented as a pioneering model enriching national priorities and global trends. It focuses on optimising human capital investment by developing participants' necessary skills innovatively. This adaptable programme supports creating solutions for potential future challenges.
The event concluded with an emphasis on empowering people and driving progress across all life aspects through innovative global models. By fostering collaboration among various stakeholders, these efforts aim to amplify impact and drive systemic progress for future generations.
