Al-Azhar Grand Imam And Indonesia's President-elect Join Forces To Halt Gaza Aggression
His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, has urged immediate international action to stop the aggression on Gaza. He called for ensuring humanitarian aid access and providing essential support to end the ongoing bloodshed.
During a meeting in Jakarta with General Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia's President-elect and current Minister of Defence, Al-Tayeb stressed the need for intensified global efforts to address the crisis in Gaza. Both leaders agreed to launch a global call to end the aggression, focusing on protecting innocent civilians, especially children, women, and the elderly.

Al-Tayeb and Subianto emphasised prioritising humanitarian interests and pursuing legal and international measures for a lasting solution. They advocated for the expedited implementation of a two-state solution to stop violations against Palestinians.
The Grand Imam expressed gratitude for Indonesia's steadfast support of Palestinian rights. He highlighted Indonesia's dispatch of relief convoys in collaboration with Al-Azhar since the onset of the Gaza aggression.
Subianto reaffirmed Indonesia's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. He reiterated the country's commitment to ending the aggression on Gaza and supporting an independent Palestinian state.
Al-Tayeb underscored the importance of unified political and religious action against ongoing massacres in Gaza. He called on global leaders to use political and legal mechanisms alongside religious leaders to raise awareness about Palestinians' daily suffering.
The Grand Imam mentioned that the Muslim Council of Elders is considering launching a global alliance of religious leaders titled "Religions for Development." This initiative aims to leverage religious teachings to achieve sustainable development goals, with Indonesia serving as a model while upholding religious values.
Subianto welcomed this initiative and pledged to create a conducive environment for its success. He also commended Egypt's efforts in facilitating humanitarian aid to Gaza and raising awareness about innocent civilians' plight.
Support for Injured Individuals
The Indonesian President-elect announced his country's readiness to receive injured individuals from Gaza, especially children and orphans, for treatment in Indonesian hospitals. He noted plans to host them until they can return home safely.
Additionally, Subianto mentioned plans to restore the Indonesian medical complex in Gaza once the situation improves and aggression ceases.
Acknowledging Efforts
At the end of their meeting, Al-Tayeb presented Subianto with the Al-Azhar Shield and the Muslim Council of Elders Medal. This gesture marked the 10th anniversary of the Council's establishment.
