GLMC And World Bank Forge Partnership To Enhance Global Labor Market Policies And Training

The Global Labor Market Conference (GLMC) has entered a three-year partnership with the World Bank. This collaboration aims to shape labor systems and develop policies that meet future job market needs while addressing current challenges. The partnership builds on previous efforts, focusing on training policymakers and conducting research to help governments adapt to changes in labor market demands and workforce policies.

During the second edition of the GLMC in Riyadh, policymakers from over 26 countries gathered for the launch of the GLMC Labor Market Academy. This academy, created with the World Bank and Takamol Holding, offers a three-year program covering all aspects of the labor market. It aims to train experts responsible for future policy formulation and create a platform for cross-country learning, especially for low- and middle-income nations.

GLMC and World Bank Strengthen Labor Market Policies

The partnership also includes launching a Policy Lab, which will facilitate discussions on specific policies and programs to improve labor market outcomes. Two policy labs introduced during the conference will address youth employment challenges. They will focus on Active Labor Market Programs (ALMPs) to enhance employment opportunities and Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) to bridge skill gaps between employees and job responsibilities.

World Bank Country Director for GCC countries, Safaa El Tayeb El-Kogali, highlighted the partnership's goal of promoting knowledge exchange globally. "The World Bank is committed to supporting the global workforce by ensuring resilience and inclusivity in labor markets," she stated. This collaboration seeks to ensure that emerging economies benefit from an inclusive global labor market through joint research and advanced policy development.

The GLMC Labor Market Academy provides policymakers with personal growth opportunities, access to rich informational resources, and an extensive international network facilitated by the conference. A team of World Bank experts oversees its operations, focusing on labor market policy, social protection, skills development, and workforce growth.
