GISEC Global 2024 Celebrates Setting Three Guinness World Records
The GISEC Global 2024 exhibition, a pivotal event in the cybersecurity calendar, concluded on Thursday with the United Arab Emirates marking a significant milestone. The UAE Cyber Security Council announced the setting of three Guinness World Records, showcasing the nation's commitment to advancing cybersecurity awareness and skills. This achievement underscores the UAE's position as a leader in the global cybersecurity landscape.
The records were achieved in categories highlighting the importance of Internet of Things (IoT) awareness and cybersecurity training. A notable record was set for the 'Largest Internet of Things Awareness Lesson' with 293 participants. Additionally, the event celebrated diversity and inclusion by setting records for 'Most Nationalities in an Internet of Things Awareness Lesson' and 'Most Nationalities in a Gamified Cybersecurity Training', with 104 nationalities represented in each category, respectively.
The theme for this year's event, "AI-Driven Cyber Resilience," brought to light various critical topics such as infrastructure protection, youth empowerment, and the challenges posed by AI in cybersecurity. A significant focus was placed on female empowerment within the sector, with ten sessions on the 'Dark Stage' delivered exclusively by women. These discussions not only highlighted the role of women in cybersecurity but also provided valuable insights into protecting systems against future data threats.
Global Collaboration and Recognition
During one of the event's highlight sessions, senior representatives from banking institutions across the UAE, Singapore, Pakistan, Oman, and Jordan shared their strategies for safeguarding their systems. With finance and insurance organizations experiencing 566 breaches globally, resulting in over 254 million leaked records, these insights are crucial for enhancing data protection measures.
The inaugural GISEC Global Cyber Excellence Awards saw Dr. Mohamed Al-Kuwaiti, Head of UAE Cyber Security, being honored as the Personality of the Year. Other notable winners included Dr. Reem AlShammari from Kuwait, recognized as the GISEC Cybersecurity Woman of the Arab World 2024, and Basim AlRuwaii from Saudi Aramco, who received the GISEC CISO of the Year 2024 award.
A Convergence of Global Experts
The three-day event attracted over 750 leading cybersecurity companies and more than 350 speakers, alongside 20,000 professionals from around the world. This gathering not only facilitated knowledge exchange and networking among experts but also highlighted the latest trends and challenges facing the cybersecurity industry today.
In conclusion, GISEC Global 2024 has set new benchmarks for cybersecurity awareness and skill development. Through its record-setting achievements and comprehensive agenda, it has reinforced the critical importance of AI-driven cyber resilience and global collaboration in safeguarding our digital future.
