Giga Projects Showcase Saudi Culture And Heritage On A Global Stage
The Ministry of Culture recently organised the Cultural Investment Conference at the King Fahd Cultural Center in Riyadh. A key session, "Saudi Giga Projects: Showcasing Culture to the World," featured Michael Dyke, CEO of New Murabba, and Rayan Fayez, NEOM's Deputy CEO. The event attracted cultural and development experts who discussed the role of culture in Saudi Arabia's future.
Fayez emphasised that NEOM is more than just a real-estate venture; it is an all-encompassing project with an integrated ecosystem. He explained that 15 crucial economic sectors have been identified, with culture and heritage being central to NEOM's economic model. According to Fayez, culture is essential for attracting talent, drawing investment, and improving quality of life.

NEOM has launched several cultural initiatives to support its vision. These include an Artists in Residence (AIR) Program and a cultural leadership program. Additionally, NEOM hosts major international film productions to further enhance its cultural landscape. These efforts aim to position NEOM as a hub for creativity and innovation.
Michael Dyke spoke about the New Murabba project in Riyadh, which draws inspiration from the historic Murabba Palace while incorporating modern architectural elements. This project aims to connect past, present, and future through new urban spaces, green areas, and innovative cultural and educational facilities.
The conference highlighted the importance of culture in Saudi Vision 2030. The Ministry of Culture is working to empower creative industries and expand their presence both locally and internationally. Culture is seen as a driver of sustainable development and a bridge for global cultural exchange.
Dyke also mentioned the "Mukaab" (cube), which will be the world's largest building and serve as New Murabba's centerpiece. This structure will offer an immersive experience using advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and holograms, establishing itself as a global destination.
Linking History with Future Vision
The discussion also touched on how cultural and heritage assets can boost national identity and attract investors. Fayez cited archaeological discoveries in NEOM, such as the ancient civilization of Masyoon and Nabataean trade routes, as rich sources for linking history with future visions.
The conference underscored culture's pivotal role in Saudi Arabia's development plans. By focusing on creative industries and cultural exchange, Saudi Arabia aims to foster sustainable growth while enhancing its global presence.
