GCCIA To Host International Forum On Carbon Neutrality And Sustainable Energy Practices

The Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) will host a forum titled "Advancing the Future of Energy Towards Net Zero" on October 27-28, 2024. This event, under the patronage of Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Region, aims to foster discussions on carbon neutrality and sustainable energy practices.

Building on previous Energy Storage Forums from 2022 and 2023, this gathering is organized with partners like the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), GO15 International Organization, and the Mediterranean Transmission System Operators Organization (Med-TSO). The forum will be a key platform for dialogue about the energy sector's future.

Key topics at the event will include advanced technologies, energy market development, electrical interconnections, and energy storage solutions. Ensuring resource adequacy for a zero-emission grid is also a primary focus. These discussions aim to align with the goals of the upcoming Climate Conference (COP 28).

The forum will feature expert-led sessions covering crucial subjects such as grid planning and market reforms. Integration of artificial intelligence in grid operations and advancements in grid technologies will also be discussed. These sessions are designed to promote shared objectives of energy transition and carbon neutrality.

Top executives from GO15, representing electricity grid operators that account for nearly 80% of global electricity demand and 21% of global renewable energy production, will attend. Leaders and specialists from Med-TSO and the global energy sector will also participate in this significant event.

This event highlights the importance of international cooperation in creating a cleaner and more flexible energy future. By bringing together experts from around the world, it seeks to advance shared goals in sustainable energy practices.

The forum underscores how collaboration can drive progress towards achieving net-zero emissions. It serves as an essential step in fostering international dialogue on sustainable energy solutions.
