GCAA Unveils First Air Navigation Safety Strategy For Sheikh Zayed Centre From 2024 To 2026

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has introduced its inaugural Air Navigation Services Safety Strategy for the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre (SZC). This strategy, covering 2024-2026, aims to set a new benchmark in safety management. It underscores GCAA’s dedication to maintaining top-tier safety standards and promoting a proactive safety culture within SZC's operations.

Aligning with the Global Aviation Safety Plan (GASP) and the National Aviation Safety Plan (NASP), this strategy creates a strong framework for implementing a Safety Management System (SMS) tailored to SZC's needs. By integrating global and national safety benchmarks, it enhances SZC’s ability to identify safety gaps and implement comprehensive solutions that bolster operational safety.

GCAA Launches Safety Strategy for SZC

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the GCAA, stated, "We are proud to launch the Air Navigation Services Safety Strategy, which reflects our ongoing commitment to the highest safety standards and reaffirms the UAE's determination to be a regional leader in this field. This strategy is an innovative model that integrates the global and national safety plans with the objectives of the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre."

Ahmed Ibrahim Al Jallaf, Assistant Director-General of the Air Navigation Services Sector, highlighted that this strategy will boost operational efficiency and add value for airlines, passengers, and users of UAE airspace. He emphasised their continuous efforts to enhance service quality while ensuring airspace safety and efficiency.

A key aspect of this initiative is its focus on ongoing improvement in safety performance. This is achieved through specialised training programmes and advanced skill development for SZC personnel. The strategy also incorporates industry-leading best practices to ensure high standards are met consistently.

Additionally, optimising safety data management plays a crucial role. By refining data collection and analysis methods, decision-making processes are enhanced. This approach provides insights into safety trends and drives targeted improvements in safety outcomes.

Addressing Rising Air Traffic

Since early 2024, there has been a 10.3% increase in air traffic movements in the UAE. This rise highlights the urgent need for strengthened safety measures to accommodate growing demands for air navigation services. The new strategy aims to address these challenges effectively.

This strategic initiative by GCAA not only aims at improving current operations but also sets a precedent for future advancements in aviation safety within the region. By aligning with international standards and focusing on continuous improvement, it ensures that UAE remains at the forefront of aviation excellence.
