GCAA Implements New Protocol For Autopsy And Aviation Medicine In Air Accident Investigations

The UAE has introduced a new protocol to enhance air accident investigations. This initiative, approved by Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), aims to improve investigation practices by integrating forensic and aviation medicine expertise. This development strengthens national capabilities and encourages collaboration among relevant entities.

The protocol allows investigators to consult experts in forensic and aviation medicine. This approach helps analyse the health status of flight crew members alongside other factors like aircraft condition and flight operations. Such comprehensive analyses aim to provide precise conclusions about accident causes and contributing factors.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, highlighted that the protocol represents a significant advancement in air accident investigations. Developed in coordination with relevant entities, it fosters multidisciplinary cooperation and strengthens national efforts to apply global standards in identifying and preventing air accidents.

Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri stated, "The adoption of this protocol, designed to provide more enablers for fostering a safer and more sustainable aviation environment, reflects our commitment to the wise leadership's directives to enhance aviation safety and develop innovative tools to improve air accident investigations and prevent their recurrence. Captain Aysha Mohammed Al Hamil, Assistant Director-General in Air Accident Investigations, noted that this protocol is a valuable technical development.
