GCC Backs UN Call For Immediate Gaza Ceasefire Amid Ramadan
In a significant development, the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, has officially welcomed a new UN Security Council resolution. This resolution, issued during the holy month of Ramadan, calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Its primary aim is to establish a permanent and sustainable ceasefire, ensuring the release of all hostages and compelling parties to adhere to their obligations under international law. Furthermore, it seeks to enhance the flow of humanitarian aid and protection for civilians throughout the Gaza Strip.
Albudaiwi expressed his hope that this resolution would play a crucial role in alleviating the suffering of the people of Gaza. He emphasized its potential to halt the escalation and targeting of Palestinian civilians, their forced displacement, and ultimately, to end the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip. This move is seen as a step towards easing the Palestinian people's suffering.

The GCC statement highlighted Albudaiwi's call for the international community to adopt unified standards in addressing this crisis. He stressed the importance of providing international protection for the Palestinian people and holding Israel legally accountable for its actions. These actions have led to the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians in the Gaza Strip, predominantly women and children, in what has been described as a clear violation of international law and humanitarian law.
Albudaiwi urged Israeli occupation forces to immediately comply with this new resolution. He called for adherence to United Nations resolutions and international humanitarian law requirements, including an immediate halt to targeting civilians in Gaza and attacks on humanitarian institutions and infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, and shelters.
Moreover, Albudaiwi reiterated the urgent need for a comprehensive and lasting solution to the Palestinian cause. He advocated for an end to the ongoing suffering and for providing hope to the Palestinian people. This includes enabling Palestinians to establish their state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with relevant international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
This development marks a critical moment in international efforts to address the crisis in Gaza, highlighting a collective desire for peace and stability in the region.
