GCC Secretary-General Highlights Importance Of GCC-UK Dialogue For Strategic Partnership
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Albudaiwi, emphasised the importance of the Ministerial Meeting for the Strategic Dialogue between the GCC and the United Kingdom. This meeting highlights a commitment to enhancing cooperation and evolving this partnership to align with current ambitions through practical initiatives. These efforts aim to transform political intentions into real achievements, thereby strengthening the strategic alliance between both parties.
During the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Albudaiwi expressed gratitude towards the UK for recognising the State of Palestine. He described this as a historic and courageous decision that underscores a commitment to justice and international legitimacy. This recognition offers hope to Palestinians in their quest for freedom and independence.

Albudaiwi highlighted that economic relations between the GCC and the UK are built on strong historical foundations. The UK's investments in GCC countries have surpassed $200 billion, while GCC states invested over $60 billion in the UK in 2022. In 2023, trade exchange between them reached approximately $32 billion.
These figures indicate a promising opportunity to finalise a free trade agreement, which would benefit both economies and expand cooperation across various sectors. Albudaiwi noted that negotiations have been lengthy, but signing this agreement is crucial to demonstrate a shared commitment to advancing this relationship.
The Secretary-General expressed pride in the high status achieved by these historic strategic relations across multiple levels, including academic and scientific fields. There has been an increase in Gulf students attending UK universities and more Gulf tourists visiting due to favourable visa facilitation by the UK for Gulf citizens.
Albudaiwi also appreciated a message from the UK Prime Minister to GCC leaders expressing eagerness to conclude free trade agreement negotiations. This message reflects Britain's aspiration to strengthen ties with GCC countries further.
The strategic partnership aims to establish security, stability, and prosperity at regional and international levels. Albudaiwi reiterated that establishing an independent Palestinian state is essential for achieving lasting peace in the region.
This collaboration between GCC countries and the UK is poised for growth with concrete projects that reflect mutual ambitions. The ongoing dialogue seeks tangible outcomes that will consolidate their strategic partnership further.
