GCC Supreme Council Issues Strong Condemnation Of Israeli Aggression Against Qatar

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) supreme council convened an extraordinary session in Doha, chaired by Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar. The meeting addressed the recent Israeli aggression against Qatar, which targeted residential areas housing members of Hamas's political bureau. This attack occurred amid ongoing negotiations mediated by Qatar concerning Gaza.

The GCC supreme council strongly condemned Israel's actions, describing them as a severe escalation and a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter. The attack resulted in the death of Badr Saad Mohammed Al Humaidi Al Dosari from Qatari security services and caused civilian casualties, threatening lives in densely populated areas.

GCC Condemns Israeli Aggression in Qatar

The council affirmed its full support for Qatar's measures to counter this aggression. It emphasised that the security of GCC states is interconnected, and any attack on one member is considered an attack on all. The Joint Defense Agreement and Basic Statute of the GCC were cited as frameworks for collective security.

In response to the aggression, GCC leaders directed the Joint Defense Council to meet urgently in Doha. This meeting will be preceded by a Higher Military Committee session to evaluate defense strategies and threats following the Israeli actions against Qatar.

The supreme council expressed concern that continued Israeli aggression poses a direct threat to Gulf security and regional stability. It warned that these actions undermine peace efforts and existing agreements with Israel, potentially destabilising the entire region.

The council urged the UN Security Council, international community, and influential nations to take decisive action against Israel's violations. It highlighted that these practices threaten regional and global peace and called for international sanctions to deter such acts.

International Community's Role

The GCC stressed the need for urgent international intervention to stop Israel's repeated breaches of international law. It called on countries and organisations worldwide to condemn these acts and ensure respect for Qatar's sovereignty while protecting civilians.

Praise was given to Qatari authorities for their swift response in managing the incident's aftermath, ensuring citizen safety. The council noted that Israel's actions hinder Qatar's mediation efforts for a ceasefire in Gaza and humanitarian relief for Palestinians.

Adherence to International Principles

The supreme council reiterated adherence to UN Charter principles, respecting state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, peaceful dispute resolution, and refraining from force or threats. These principles are vital for maintaining regional peace.

Gratitude was extended to Arab, Islamic nations, and friendly countries that condemned Israeli aggression against Qatar. Their solidarity reflects a shared commitment to rejecting sovereignty violations and supporting regional stability efforts.

The council urged peace-loving nations globally to denounce Israel's attempts to obstruct diplomatic solutions aimed at halting attacks in Gaza. It highlighted crimes such as population displacement, starvation policies, disrupting humanitarian work, and targeting journalists.
