GCC Secretary General Emphasises Support For Palestinian People's Rights And Statehood
Jasem Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), reiterated the GCC's commitment to supporting Palestinian rights. He highlighted efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. This aligns with the Arab Peace Initiative and international resolutions. Albudaiwi's comments came during a meeting in Riyadh with Mazen Mohammed Rateb Ghneim, the new Palestinian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
The meeting focused on several critical issues, including recent developments in Palestinian territories and violations by Israeli forces. Albudaiwi reaffirmed the GCC's stance from the 45th session of its Supreme Council in December 2024. The council emphasized the importance of resolving the Palestinian issue, ending Israeli occupation, and supporting Palestinian sovereignty over all occupied territories.

Albudaiwi urged countries worldwide to complete recognition procedures for Palestine. He called for collective international action to achieve a lasting solution. This solution should ensure an independent Palestinian state based on 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, following the Arab Peace Initiative and international resolutions.
He stressed that resolving this conflict requires intensified efforts from the global community. The focus should be on upholding the legitimate rights of Palestinians. The GCC remains committed to these principles and continues to advocate for a peaceful resolution that respects Palestinian sovereignty.
The Secretary General's remarks underscore the GCC's dedication to addressing ongoing challenges faced by Palestinians. The council remains steadfast in its support for their rights and aspirations for statehood. This commitment is crucial in navigating complex geopolitical dynamics in the region.
In summary, Albudaiwi's statements reflect a consistent GCC policy towards Palestine. By advocating for international recognition and action, he aims to foster a climate conducive to peace and justice for Palestinians.
