GCC Secretary-General Highlights Commitment To Global Digital Security And Stability At Doha Forum

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is committed to being an active partner in global digital security efforts, as stated by GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi. He spoke at the Digital Cooperation Organization's roundtable during the 23rd Doha Forum in Qatar. Albudaiwi stressed the importance of digital infrastructures for modern economies and services, warning that disruptions could lead to instability.

He highlighted the need for international collaboration to maintain digital security during cyber crises. The GCC has made progress with its Unified Gulf Strategy for Cybersecurity, which includes investments in cloud infrastructure and human capital development. Joint cyber exercises are also part of this strategy, simulating real-world risks.

The GCC's cybersecurity strategy involves creating digital platforms for early warning and coordination during cyber incidents. Albudaiwi emphasized the importance of mutual support among nations when critical digital systems fail. This includes technical cooperation frameworks and joint incident response mechanisms.

He noted that temporary use of digital infrastructure from neighboring countries might be necessary while respecting national sovereignty and privacy. The GCC's approach aims to strengthen solidarity and build common frameworks for maintaining international digital legitimacy.

Albudaiwi stressed that several digital sectors require stringent international protection to prevent escalation and protect civilian lives. Key areas include energy and fuel control systems, telecommunications networks, submarine cables, healthcare systems, financial networks, government services, and logistics networks.

The GCC's commitment to cybersecurity is evident through its significant investments and strategic initiatives. These efforts aim to enhance security and stability in cyberspace while supporting global digital security initiatives.

The focus on protecting essential services highlights the need for robust cybersecurity measures. By working together, nations can ensure the resilience of critical infrastructures against potential threats.
