GCC States Achieve Results Exceeding Global Average In Social Progress Index According To Jasem Albudaiwi
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General, Jasem Albudaiwi, highlighted the impressive achievements of GCC states in the Social Progress Index, surpassing global averages. These accomplishments have bolstered Gulf integration. Albudaiwi's comments were made during the 11th meeting of the Committee of Ministers of Social Affairs and Development in Kuwait City. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Amthal Hadi Haif Al Huwailah, Kuwait's Minister of Social Affairs and Family and Childhood Affairs.
Albudaiwi expressed gratitude to Kuwait's Amir, Shaikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, for hosting the meeting and supporting GCC initiatives. He praised the leaders of GCC countries for their unwavering support across various sectors. The committee plays a crucial role in advancing joint Gulf efforts in social development, with significant achievements over recent years.

During his speech, Albudaiwi emphasised the committee's active role in promoting social development within the GCC. He highlighted past successes, including adopting the Gulf Strategy for Combating Drugs (2025-2028) at the 45th Gulf Summit in December 2024. This strategy aims to protect children, youth, and families from drug-related issues through collaborative efforts.
The committee also discussed several key topics related to social development. These included plans for combating drugs from 2025 to 2028, a joint charitable and humanitarian action plan from 2025 to 2030, and a volunteer action plan from 2026 to 2030. These initiatives aim to strengthen social ties among GCC nations and maximise shared benefits.
Albudaiwi announced that all GCC member states are expected to score above the global average of 64 points on the Global Social Progress Index by 2025. Additionally, an event will be organised by the GCC General Secretariat to honour one young man and one young woman from each Gulf state for their creative contributions to national advancement.
This recognition event aims to foster creativity among Gulf youth by celebrating their innovative ideas and programmes that contribute positively to their countries' progress. Such initiatives are designed to enhance the profile of young people across the region.
The meeting underscored that these strategic plans would deepen social integration among GCC countries while maximising common gains. By focusing on these areas, the committee seeks to build a more cohesive and supportive environment for all member states.
The discussions at this gathering reflect a commitment to addressing vital social issues collaboratively within the GCC framework. The emphasis on drug prevention strategies and youth empowerment highlights ongoing efforts towards sustainable development in the region.
