GCC States Make Significant Progress In Combating Islamophobia And Promoting Tolerance

Jasem Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), highlighted the significant measures taken by GCC countries to address Islamophobia. He emphasised that Islam promotes love, tolerance, and understanding, advocating for peace and coexistence. Albudaiwi made these remarks during the International Day to Combat Islamophobia on March 15. He noted that all joint Gulf statements consistently stress the importance of dialogue and mutual respect among cultures.

Albudaiwi underscored the need for international efforts to reinforce principles of tolerance across societies. These efforts aim to spread a culture of religious tolerance, dialogue, and coexistence while condemning offensive remarks against Islam and Muslims. The statements also call for countering hatred, intolerance, negative stereotyping, and misrepresentation of religions.

GCC States Combat Islamophobia Effectively

The GCC states have proposed establishing a GCC Scientific Observatory to Combat Extremism through the Committee of Ministers of Islamic Affairs and Endowments. This initiative aims to enhance Islam's true image and counter hate campaigns. Albudaiwi reiterated the firm stance of GCC states in rejecting terrorism and extremism from any source.

He stressed their absolute rejection of all forms of terrorism and extremism, including any justifications or motivations behind them. The commitment extends to eradicating sources of terrorist financing and supporting global efforts against terrorism. Albudaiwi clarified that terrorism is not linked to any religion, culture, nationality, or ethnic group.

Tolerance and coexistence are fundamental principles in GCC societies, as reflected in their interactions with others. Albudaiwi condemned all acts of terrorism, emphasising the sanctity of human life and rejecting harm to civilians and civilian facilities like schools, places of worship, and hospitals.

He urged ongoing coordination among international and regional communities to confront terrorist groups and sectarian militias threatening security. Albudaiwi's statements reflect a commitment to maintaining stability by addressing threats posed by these groups.

The GCC's proactive approach includes promoting dialogue among cultures while rejecting anything that fuels hatred or extremism. By fostering mutual respect among peoples, they aim to create a more harmonious global community where diverse cultures can coexist peacefully.
