GCC States Achieve Results Exceeding Global Average In Social Progress Index, Says Jasem Albudaiwi

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Albudaiwi, highlighted that GCC nations have surpassed the global average in the Social Progress Index. This achievement has bolstered their regional integration. His comments were made during the 11th meeting of the Committee of Ministers of Social Affairs and Development in Kuwait City, chaired by Dr. Amthal Hadi Haif Al Huwailah, Kuwait's Minister of Social Affairs and Family and Childhood Affairs.

Albudaiwi expressed gratitude to Amir Shaikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah for hosting the meeting and supporting GCC initiatives. He praised the backing from GCC leaders across various sectors. The committee's role in fostering joint Gulf action in social development was emphasised, showcasing past accomplishments.

GCC Exceeds Global Average in Social Progress

One significant achievement is the adoption of the Gulf Strategy for Combating Drugs (2025-2028) during the 45th Gulf Summit in December 2024. This strategy aims to enhance collaborative efforts to shield children, youth, and families from drug-related issues. All GCC member states are anticipated to score above the global average of 64 points on the Global Social Progress Index by 2025.

The committee discussed several crucial topics, including plans for combating drugs, a joint charitable and humanitarian action plan (2025-2030), and a volunteer action plan (2026-2030). These initiatives aim to strengthen social integration among GCC countries and maximise shared benefits.

An event will be organised by the GCC General Secretariat to honour one young man and woman from each Gulf state. This recognition is for their creativity and contributions towards national advancement. The event has inspired ideas and programmes that elevate Gulf youth's profile.

Albudaiwi noted that these plans would deepen social integration within the GCC, enhancing mutual gains. The committee plays a pivotal role in supporting joint Gulf actions in social development, highlighting achievements over recent years.

The meeting underscored vital topics like drug strategy, charitable actions, and volunteer plans. These discussions aim to foster greater cooperation among GCC nations in addressing social challenges effectively.
