GCC Secretary General Endorses Two-State Solution Following Madrid Talks
The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, expressed his approval of the joint meeting's statement on implementing the two-state solution. The event took place in Madrid, Spain, and included representatives from various countries and organisations.
Al-Budaiwi reiterated the unwavering stance of GCC nations in backing Palestinian sovereignty over territories occupied since June 1967. The gathering saw participation from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Türkiye, Spain, Ireland, Norway, Slovenia, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This diverse representation underscored a collective commitment to addressing the Palestinian issue.
The GCC Secretary-General lauded the efforts of the Joint Ministerial Contact Group of the League of Arab States and OIC. He highlighted statements from the 161st session of the Ministerial Council that stress continuing efforts led by Saudi Arabia to halt Israeli aggression against Palestinians.
Al-Budaiwi pointed out that these efforts aim to support Palestine's bid for wider international recognition and full United Nations membership. Additionally, there is a push to hold an international peace conference to further these goals.
