GCC Secretary General Jasem Albudaiwi Reaffirms Commitment To Joint Islamic Action At OIC Ministerial Meeting
Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), highlighted the Council's dedication to Islamic unity at the 51st session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers. The session, themed "The Organization of Islamic Cooperation in a Transforming World," took place on June 21-22, 2025. It gathered foreign ministers from OIC member states and OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taha.
Albudaiwi emphasized the GCC's unwavering support for Palestinians, especially in Gaza. He urged intensified efforts to ease their suffering, lift the siege, and ensure international protection. He stressed adherence to UN Security Council Resolutions 2735, 2712, and 2720. These resolutions call for a ceasefire, hostages' release, humanitarian aid delivery, and withdrawal of occupying forces from Gaza.

The secretary-general expressed gratitude towards Türkiye for its hospitality and successful organization of the session. He also acknowledged the OIC General Secretariat's preparatory work. Albudaiwi noted that the GCC has been a key partner in supporting OIC’s political, economic, and humanitarian goals.
Albudaiwi condemned recent Israeli strikes on Iran as violations of international law and sovereignty. He stated these actions show Israel's disregard for international norms. He called for restraint and diplomatic engagement to prevent further regional tensions.
He praised Oman for mediating U.S.–Iran talks and urged commitment to dialogue over confrontation. Albudaiwi highlighted the importance of open communication channels to avoid escalation in regional conflicts.
GCC's Strategic Vision
In his remarks, Albudaiwi lauded the GCC states’ balanced policies and strategic vision. He said these have made them stabilizing forces in the region. The GCC’s political wisdom and leadership have turned its members into influential global economic and diplomatic players.
Albudaiwi reiterated that joint Islamic efforts are crucial for addressing key issues affecting the Islamic world. The GCC has consistently played a significant role in activating cooperation mechanisms within this context.
The session underscored the importance of collaboration among Islamic nations amidst global changes. Albudaiwi’s address reflected a commitment to fostering unity and addressing pressing challenges through collective action.
