GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi Reaffirms Commitment To Joint Islamic Action At OIC Ministerial Meeting

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, emphasized the Council's dedication to Islamic cooperation during the 51st session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers. This event, themed "The Organization of Islamic Cooperation in a Transforming World," took place from June 21 to 22, 2025. It gathered foreign ministers from OIC member states and OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taha.

Albudaiwi expressed gratitude to Türkiye for its hospitality and successful organization of the session. He acknowledged the OIC General Secretariat's efforts in preparing for the event. The GCC has consistently prioritized joint Islamic initiatives, playing a crucial role in supporting the OIC's political, economic, and humanitarian goals. Albudaiwi highlighted the Council’s active participation in fostering cooperation on significant issues affecting the Islamic world.

He reiterated unwavering support from GCC member states for Palestinians, especially those in Gaza. Albudaiwi called for increased efforts to ease their hardships, lift the ongoing blockade, and ensure international protection. He stressed adherence to UN Security Council Resolutions 2735, 2712, and 2720. These resolutions demand an immediate ceasefire, release of hostages, humanitarian aid delivery, and withdrawal of occupying forces from Gaza.

Albudaiwi condemned recent Israeli strikes on Iran as blatant violations of international law and sovereignty. He noted these actions reflect Israel’s disregard for international norms. He urged all involved parties to return to diplomacy, exercise restraint, and keep communication channels open to prevent further regional escalation.

The Secretary-General praised Oman’s mediation efforts in U.S.–Iran negotiations. He encouraged a collective commitment to dialogue over confrontation. Albudaiwi concluded by commending GCC states’ balanced policies and strategic vision. He stated that these have made them stabilizing forces in the region.

Albudaiwi emphasized that GCC’s political wisdom and forward-looking leadership have transformed its member states into influential economic and diplomatic actors globally. The GCC continues to play a pivotal role in maintaining stability through its strategic initiatives.
