GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi Advocates For Global Recognition Of Palestine And Two-State Solution

Jasem Albudaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), urged nations to join the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution. He also called for recognition of Palestine to rebuild trust and establish lasting peace. This appeal was made during a high-level ministerial session at the United Nations Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine in New York City.

The conference, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, highlighted Saudi Arabia's leadership in launching this global alliance. Albudaiwi expressed gratitude towards Saudi leadership for this initiative, which he described as a strategic vision that refocuses international attention on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. He also acknowledged France's role in co-chairing the event.

Albudaiwi praised President Emmanuel Macron and UN Secretary-General António Guterres for their efforts in defending Palestinian rights. "The Palestinian cause will remain a top priority for the GCC as a non-negotiable matter of right and justice," he emphasized. He reiterated that 2002 was pivotal when the GCC supported Saudi Arabia's Arab Peace Initiative.

The Arab Peace Initiative proposed by Saudi Arabia in 2002 offered a comprehensive vision for peace. It called for an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on pre-1967 borders. Albudaiwi stated that this initiative laid a solid foundation for viable peace, essential for restoring balance and stability in the region.

Albudaiwi commended countries that recognized Palestine, reflecting a historic sense of responsibility and commitment to international justice. He condemned Israeli aggression in Gaza and rejected settlement policies undermining the two-state solution. He stressed UNRWA's vital role, urging continuous humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts.

He highlighted the importance of international accountability and support for Palestine through humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts. The GCC remains committed to advocating for Palestinian rights as part of its broader mission for justice and peace in the region.
