GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi Highlights Digital Transformation As Key Economic Strategy

Jasem Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), highlighted the importance of digital transformation in the national visions of GCC states. He emphasised that modern technology is crucial for economic growth, sustainable development, and equal access to future opportunities. Albudaiwi shared these insights during a session by the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) at the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar.

Albudaiwi praised the DCO's efforts under Secretary-General Deemah AlYahya. He specifically lauded the launch of the DCO's Digital Economy Index report. This initiative is significant for assessing countries' progress in digital transformation and fostering a knowledge-based economy. It aids in creating effective policies for more connected and digitally balanced societies.

GCC Prioritises Digital Transformation Initiatives

The GCC region stands out as a leader in digital economy investment. This includes developing telecommunications infrastructure, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, and enhancing integration among Gulf digital markets. "This is part of the efforts aimed at building a unified Gulf digital market that enhances competitiveness and opens new horizons," Albudaiwi stated.

During his speech, Albudaiwi acknowledged the role of regional cooperation in advancing digital initiatives. The GCC aims to support international efforts to bridge the digital divide and strengthen partnerships globally. "This aligns with the aspirations of the leaders of the GCC countries towards a prosperous and sustainable digital future," he stated.

The session saw participation from various country representatives, regional and international organisations, as well as experts in the field. The focus was on bridging the global digital divide, an area where GCC states are actively contributing through their national strategies.

Albudaiwi concluded by affirming that GCC countries will continue backing international initiatives focused on narrowing this divide. Their commitment reflects their leaders' vision for a thriving digital future that benefits all segments of society equally.
