The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Albudaiwi, stated that despite major global and regional events, the GCC countries have become a key element in ensuring security and stability both regionally and globally. He described them as an exemplary model of cooperation and integration among nations. These comments were made during a discussion at the Institute of Arab Gulf States, led by Ambassador Douglas Silliman.
Albudaiwi highlighted the GCC's significant achievements across political, economic, security, and military sectors. He noted that the council has unified its positions on international platforms and strengthened strategic partnerships with various countries and organizations worldwide. Discussing future priorities for the next decade, Albudaiwi emphasized completing requirements for the Customs Union and Monetary Union. He mentioned moving towards a unified Gulf economy while enhancing joint security and defense measures. Leading efforts in energy transition and sustainable development are also key goals.
Albudaiwi reiterated the GCC's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. He stressed their rejection of any violations against Palestinian rights. The need for a fair and comprehensive solution based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative was underscored.
The Secretary-General concluded by stating that the GCC is entering a new era characterized by integration and global leadership. This is driven by a shared vision and strong political will from GCC leaders to fulfill their peoples' aspirations for greater security, prosperity, and well-being.
Empowering youth and women as essential contributors to their countries' futures was also highlighted as a priority. These initiatives aim to ensure that they play a vital role in driving progress within their societies.
