GCC Secretary General Advocates For Scientific Observatory To Address Extremism And Promote True Image Of Islam
Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), highlighted the urgent need to tackle Islamophobia globally. He attributed this issue to hostile groups targeting Islam. Albudaiwi proposed establishing a GCC Scientific Observatory to Combat Extremism. This initiative, through the Committee of Ministers responsible for Islamic Affairs and Endowments in GCC countries, aims to promote the true image of Islam and counter hate campaigns.
The proposal was discussed during the 10th meeting of ministers responsible for Islamic Affairs and Endowments in GCC countries, which took place in Doha, Qatar. The meeting was chaired by Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanim, Qatar's Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs. Ministers from various GCC countries participated in this session.

Albudaiwi remarked that the meeting aligns with the visions and directives of GCC leaders. These leaders emphasise unity, integration, and cooperation among member countries across different sectors. "The 10th meeting of the ministers responsible for Islamic Affairs and Endowments in the GCC is held in implementation of the visions and directives of Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC countries, regarding the importance of unity, integration, and cooperation among the GCC countries in various fields," he stated.
In addition to combating extremism, Albudaiwi praised efforts to support people with disabilities. He commended a proposal to draft a paper on how Ministries of Endowments and Islamic Affairs can aid these individuals. Another paper titled "The Importance of Caring for Historical Mosques" was also acknowledged for its significance.
Albudaiwi expressed gratitude towards Oman’s Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs and Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance. Their contributions were vital in preparing these two important papers. These collaborative efforts reflect a commitment to addressing key issues within the region.
The establishment of a scientific observatory is seen as crucial in highlighting Islam's true image while countering negative narratives. This initiative underscores a collective effort by GCC nations to address challenges facing their communities.
