GCC Leaders Highlight Importance Of Upholding Sudan's Sovereignty And Stability Amid Ongoing Crisis
Jasem Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), recently met with Dafallah Al Haj Ali, Sudan's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. He congratulated Ali on his new role and wished him success. Albudaiwi emphasized the GCC Supreme Council's commitment to Sudan's sovereignty, security, and stability as stated in their 44th session.
Albudaiwi reiterated the GCC's support for Sudan amidst its ongoing crisis. He stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation to ease the challenges faced by the Sudanese people. The need for de-escalation and prioritizing peace talks was highlighted as essential steps forward.

The GCC Secretary General expressed backing for United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2736. This resolution calls for implementing the Jeddah Declaration, which focuses on civilian protection in Sudan and urges a ceasefire through dialogue. The resolution also aims at resolving conflicts peacefully.
Albudaiwi welcomed recent meetings in Switzerland that sought practical measures to alleviate suffering in Sudan. These discussions aimed at achieving a lasting cessation of hostilities, marking a significant step towards peace and stability in the region.
The GCC remains committed to collaborating with international partners to restore peace in Sudan. Albudaiwi urged all parties involved to facilitate unhindered humanitarian aid delivery. Ensuring rapid and safe assistance is crucial for addressing immediate needs.
He also called for adherence to the statement by the Aligned for Advancing Lifesaving and Peace in Sudan (ALPS) Group. This group includes nations like Saudi Arabia, UAE, USA, Switzerland, Egypt, along with organisations like the African Union and United Nations.
The ALPS Group emphasized increasing aid to Darfur and ensuring it reaches those in need without obstacles. Their focus remains on enhancing support for affected regions while promoting peace initiatives across Sudan.
The GCC's dedication to working alongside global partners highlights its commitment to restoring stability in Sudan. By supporting international resolutions and facilitating humanitarian efforts, they aim to address both immediate needs and long-term peace goals effectively.
