GCC Leaders Emphasise Youth's Role In Development And Future Policies, Says Albudaiwi
Jasem Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), emphasised the significant role of youth in fostering development and strengthening Gulf societies. He noted that young people are crucial for tackling challenges, preserving cultural identity, and contributing to a sustainable future. These remarks were made during the GCC's celebration of Gulf Youth Day at its headquarters in Riyadh.
Albudaiwi highlighted that GCC nations are committed to empowering youth by involving them in various sectors. This approach aims to create an environment where young people can innovate, lead, and achieve their aspirations. The GCC's General Secretariat has introduced the "Gulf Youth Index," a scientific tool designed to monitor youth progress and identify areas for improvement.

The "Gulf Youth Index" represents a significant advancement in collaborative youth efforts. It utilises modern data and statistics to cover diverse aspects of youth life, including education, health, community participation, employment, innovation, and quality of life. This initiative is supported by member states and aims to provide accurate insights into the realities faced by young people.
Statistics shared by Albudaiwi reveal that individuals aged 15 to 34 make up about 36% of the GCC population. This demographic represents a substantial human resource if effectively harnessed. Additionally, youth participation in sports, cultural, and social activities exceeds 40% in some countries, indicating their engagement with society.
The entrepreneurial spirit among Gulf youth is evident as over 40% of emerging projects are led by those aged 20 to 34 in some GCC countries. This statistic underscores the initiative and responsibility demonstrated by young people in the region. Their involvement in entrepreneurial ventures highlights their potential as key contributors to economic growth.
Albudaiwi also announced plans for establishing a "Gulf Youth Council." This council aims to empower young people as active partners in shaping future policies and enhancing regional integration. The proposal reflects an ambitious vision for involving youth more directly in decision-making processes within the GCC framework.
The commitment of GCC leaders to prioritising youth empowerment is clear through these initiatives. By investing in young people's potential and providing platforms for their participation, the region aims to build resilient societies capable of facing future challenges while preserving cultural heritage.
