GCC Secretary-General Emphasises Strategic Importance Of Free Trade Agreement With The UK
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Albudaiwi, highlighted the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United Kingdom as a strategic opportunity to enhance economic ties. He noted that this agreement would expand trade and investment opportunities, improve market access, and foster growth and innovation for the people involved.
During a joint meeting in Kuwait between the GCC and the UK, Albudaiwi expressed gratitude for both parties' efforts in advancing their economic partnership. The meeting was chaired by Khalifa Abdullah Al-Ajeel, Kuwait's Minister of Commerce and Industry, with Chris Bryant, UK's Minister of State for Trade at the Department for Business and Trade, also in attendance.

Albudaiwi acknowledged the significant progress made by working teams from both sides during previous negotiation rounds. He praised their strong commitment and constructive spirit. "The working teams from both sides have made remarkable progress throughout the previous rounds of negotiations, reflecting the strong commitment and constructive spirit shown by both parties," he stated.
The Secretary-General noted that only a few issues remain unresolved. He expressed confidence that these gaps could be bridged successfully. "We are pleased to note today that only a limited number of outstanding issues remain," he added.
Albudaiwi concluded his remarks by emphasising mutual understanding between the Gulf and British sides. He believes they can finalise an ambitious agreement that benefits both parties. "This agreement will reflect the depth of our partnership and serve our mutual interests," he stressed.
He reiterated their shared determination to achieve successful negotiations. "We are approaching today's discussions with a shared determination to reach successful negotiations that will lay the foundation for a stronger and more dynamic economic relationship between the GCC and the UK," he affirmed.
The meeting underscored both regions' commitment to strengthening their economic relationship through this potential agreement. The collaboration aims to create new pathways for prosperity while addressing any remaining challenges effectively.
