GCC And EU Aim To Boost Strategic Ties And Ease Schengen Visa Process

In a significant development aimed at bolstering relations between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union (EU), GCC Secretary General Jasem Albudaiwi engaged in pivotal discussions with the EU Political and Security Committee, led by Delphine Pronk. The meeting underscored the robust partnership and mutual commitment to enhancing security coordination, alongside fostering stronger commercial, economic, and political ties. This dialogue, rooted in a foundation of shared perspectives on various bilateral, regional, and international matters, marks a step forward in the ongoing collaboration between the two entities.

Albudaiwi emphasized the dynamic cooperation in economic, trade, and investment sectors that characterizes the relationship between the GCC and the EU. The discussions spanned a wide array of regional and international issues, with a particular focus on the crisis in the Gaza Strip. The GCC Secretary General outlined the collective efforts aimed at mitigating the humanitarian impact of the crisis, accelerating relief aid delivery, achieving a ceasefire, addressing crimes against Palestinians, and pursuing a comprehensive and fair resolution to the Palestinian cause.

Enhancing GCC-EU Strategic Partnership

Highlighting the critical role of the international community, Albudaiwi advocated for the implementation of international laws and resolutions to realize a two-state solution and find a just resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. On bilateral relations, he urged the EU to consider exempting GCC citizens from Schengen visa requirements to facilitate travel procedures. This request aligns with the EU's commitment to enhancing its strategic partnership with GCC countries, as stated in the European Commission's declaration from May 2022.

Albudaiwi expressed optimism that these discussions would accelerate the process of exempting GCC citizens from Schengen visa requirements—a move that would significantly strengthen the strategic partnership between GCC countries and the EU. He also acknowledged the committee members' support for this exemption, highlighting it as a testament to the exceptional relations and international standing of GCC countries within the EU.

This meeting between GCC Secretary General Jasem Albudaiwi and members of the EU Political and Security Committee headed by Delphine Pronk not only reaffirms the strong ties between the GCC and EU but also sets a positive trajectory for future cooperation in addressing pressing regional issues and enhancing bilateral relations.
