GCC Secretary-General Highlights GCC Countries As Trusted Partners For Global Alliances
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, has highlighted the GCC's significant role on both regional and international stages. He noted that the GCC is now a preferred partner for many countries and regional blocs due to its balanced policies. This statement was made during the 18th periodic meeting of GCC parliamentary leaders in Abu Dhabi.
Albudaiwi emphasised that the GCC's political, economic, commercial, and technological influence has grown considerably. The council's moderate approach has made it a reliable ally for strategic partnerships. These partnerships are sought by various nations and regional groups aiming to collaborate with the GCC countries.

The meeting in Abu Dhabi was chaired by Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council. It brought together Speakers from Shura Councils, Houses of Representatives, and National Assemblies across the GCC. Albudaiwi stressed that these gatherings align with the visions of GCC leaders who value unity and integration among member states.
Since its inception in Doha in 2007, this assembly of GCC parliamentary bodies has aimed to solidify joint positions on strategic issues. It seeks to enhance cooperation with parliaments globally and address Gulf and Arab regional security concerns. Albudaiwi praised Qatar's leadership during this session for advancing Gulf parliamentary collaboration.
He acknowledged the positive outcomes from meetings with international parliamentary representatives. These interactions have led to recommendations that support legislative progress within the Gulf region. The focus remains on fostering stronger ties with other countries' parliaments and international organisations.
Cultural Identity and Educational Initiatives
A symposium organised by Qatar's Shura Council titled "Cultural Diversity and the Challenges of Change" was commended by Albudaiwi. The event explored how Gulf legislative councils can protect regional identity amidst change. Recommendations included developing educational programmes to preserve cultural values within GCC states.
Efforts were also directed towards guiding digital influencers to uphold Gulf identity values. Additionally, a document concerning identity preservation was proposed to further strengthen cultural ties among member states.
The Secretary-General concluded by recognising achievements in joint Gulf parliamentary work under Qatar's presidency. These efforts have resulted in valuable recommendations aimed at enhancing legislative cooperation across the region.
