GCC Secretary General Jasem Albudaiwi Highlights Commitment To Global Strategic Partnerships

The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, highlighted the significance of the recent ministerial meeting with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). This gathering underscores the GCC's dedication to forging robust strategic alliances globally. The meeting took place on Friday during the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Albudaiwi pointed out that this meeting serves as a crucial platform for enhancing security and stability both regionally and internationally while fostering cooperation. He remarked that since their initial meeting in 2013, ties between GCC and CELAC have strengthened, built on mutual respect and trust, reflecting a shared commitment to deepening partnerships.

GCC Affirms Commitment to Global Partnerships

The Secretary General stressed the strategic importance of addressing global political and security challenges. He emphasized coordinated efforts are essential to tackle pressing issues like nuclear proliferation, ballistic missile threats, maritime security, counter-terrorism, and organized crime. These challenges require collective action and collaboration.

On economic matters, Albudaiwi noted that trade between GCC and CELAC reached around $11.7 billion in 2021. He highlighted economic cooperation's vital role in strengthening relations between these regions and stressed the need to further develop these connections in the future.

Albudaiwi expressed optimism about exploring new opportunities for integration between GCC and CELAC. He reaffirmed his belief that joint efforts will yield positive outcomes, reinforcing their partnership. Future cooperation will include areas such as education, political dialogue, security, culture, youth engagement, sports, agriculture, and food security.

The Secretary General concluded by expressing eagerness to enhance collaboration across various sectors. He believes these efforts will lead to fruitful results that strengthen ties between GCC and CELAC.
