GCC Secretary-General Highlights Importance Of First GCC-China Forum On Peaceful Nuclear Technology

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General, Jasem Albudaiwi, highlighted the significance of the inaugural GCC-China Forum on Peaceful Nuclear Technology. He stated that this event is a crucial platform for enhancing collaboration and sharing best practices in nuclear energy's peaceful applications. The forum underscores the vital relationship between GCC nations and China.

Albudaiwi noted that this forum is part of implementing outcomes from the first GCC-China Summit for Cooperation and Development held in Riyadh in December 2022. This summit marked a significant milestone in GCC-Chinese relations, where leaders approved a joint action plan for 2023-2027 to advance shared goals.

GCC-China Forum Advances Nuclear Cooperation

During his speech at the forum's opening in Chengdu, China, attended by China's Atomic Energy Authority Director Shan Zhongde, Albudaiwi emphasised the historical depth of GCC-Chinese ties. He pointed out that these relations are further strengthened by distinguished connections between both sides.

Albudaiwi identified substantial opportunities for cooperation and knowledge exchange in sectors like nuclear medicine, water desalination, and industrial applications of nuclear technology. He noted that GCC countries have made notable progress in harnessing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The Secretary-General also highlighted efforts by GCC nations to ensure nuclear energy's peaceful use, especially in the Middle East. These efforts are conducted in collaboration with the international community to promote safe and innovative solutions to future challenges.

In his concluding remarks, Albudaiwi expressed hope that the forum would establish effective cooperation mechanisms. These mechanisms aim to enhance capabilities to address future challenges safely and innovatively.
