GCC-Benelux Strategic Partnership Strengthens Cooperation To Address Regional And International Challenges

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, highlighted the importance of the strategic partnership between GCC states and Benelux countries. He stated that this collaboration is crucial for tackling current regional and international challenges. This was discussed during the GCC-Benelux ministerial meeting held alongside the 79th United Nations General Assembly session in New York.

Albudaiwi noted that the meeting established a regular platform for dialogue on political, security, economic, and cultural matters of shared interest. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing cooperation across various sectors. The meeting was chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, who currently leads the ministerial council.

GCC-Benelux Partnership Enhances Regional Cooperation

Albudaiwi mentioned an upcoming joint GCC-European summit in Brussels, which aims to strengthen ties between the GCC and the European Union. This summit is expected to foster common positions on bilateral and multilateral issues reflecting mutual interests. It signifies a commitment to deepening relations with European partners.

The foreign ministers from both GCC states and Benelux Union countries—Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg—participated in this meeting. Albudaiwi expressed confidence that such gatherings are vital for reinforcing both sides' dedication to addressing challenges collaboratively, thereby ensuring regional and global security and stability.

Albudaiwi voiced concerns over escalating tensions in the region due to stalled peace processes, conflicts like the Israeli war on Gaza, and deteriorating situations in areas such as the West Bank and Lebanon. He also highlighted disturbances in the Red Sea and threats from ballistic missile proliferation as significant risks to regional peace.

He stressed that these challenges require collective efforts from like-minded nations to be addressed effectively. Respect for international law and humanitarian principles is essential in confronting these issues. Albudaiwi emphasized that a clear international vision is needed to resolve these crises impartially.

A Call for International Cooperation

Albudaiwi affirmed that ongoing crises persist due to the lack of an impartial international vision. He called for implementing international resolutions without exceptions to address these issues effectively. The Secretary-General reiterated his belief that collaborative efforts are crucial for achieving security and stability globally.

Praising historical ties between GCC states and Benelux countries, Albudaiwi reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening these relationships across various fields. This dedication aims to serve mutual interests while promoting stability and development within their regions.

The meeting underscored the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation between GCC states and Benelux countries. By working together, they aim to address pressing regional challenges while fostering stronger ties with European partners through upcoming initiatives like the Brussels summit.
