GASTAT Reveals Over 65 Million Passengers Cross Saudi Land Borders In 2024
The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) has published the 2024 Road Transport Statistics, offering insights into land transport in Saudi Arabia. The report reveals that over 65.9 million passengers travelled through land border crossings in 2024. Arrivals made up more than 33.1 million, or 50.3%, while departures were at 32.8 million, accounting for 49.7%.
King Fahd Causeway was the busiest border crossing, handling 49.9% of all passenger traffic. Al Khafji crossing followed with an 11.6% share. January saw the highest passenger movement at 10.1%, with February close behind at 9.3%. September and October had the lowest movement, each recording only 7.1%.

The number of registered vehicles by the end of 2024 surpassed 15.8 million, reflecting a growth of 6.9% from the previous year. Newly registered vehicles exceeded one million, marking a significant rise of 16.8% compared to 2023 figures.
Regarding road safety, there were over 17,200 major road accidents reported in the year, with a significant portion, about 60.3%, occurring within city limits.
Mortality and Injury Rates
The mortality rate per 100,000 people decreased by 7.1%, reaching a figure of 12.13 deaths compared to the previous year. Similarly, the injury rate per 100,000 people dropped by 3.8%, resulting in a rate of 68.21 injuries.
