GAMI Marks Successful Participation At Farnborough International Airshow 2024
The General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI) recently concluded its participation in the Farnborough International Airshow in London, UK. The event saw extensive international involvement, with GAMI aiming to support national and international defence companies in achieving localisation targets. By 2030, GAMI aims to ensure over 50% of government spending on military equipment and services is localised.
During the airshow, GAMI Governor Eng. Ahmad Abdulaziz Al-Ohali oversaw the signing of significant agreements. These included partnerships between Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI), Airbus Helicopters, and Lockheed Martin. One agreement allows SAMI Alsalam Aerospace Industries to join a select group of nations with approved service centres for Lockheed Martin's C-130 Hercules aircraft maintenance.

Another agreement focuses on localising helicopter maintenance, repair, and overhaul services in collaboration with Airbus Helicopters. This partnership aims to enhance Saudi Arabia’s capabilities in helicopter repair services. SAMI Alsalam Aerospace Industries will provide support for these aircraft both regionally and globally.
GAMI showcased its efforts to create an investment-friendly environment that attracts global investors to the defence sector. The authority highlighted its supply chains designed to boost investment opportunities for local and foreign SMEs. These initiatives aim to meet the operational needs of military forces while promoting local capabilities within Saudi Arabia's military industries sector.
GAMI also emphasised its primary responsibilities, including domestic priorities, localisation initiatives, and investment incentives within the military sector. The authority aims to ensure that by 2030, more than half of government spending on military equipment is directed towards domestic suppliers.
Participation in International Meetings
At the airshow, GAMI engaged in various international meetings and partnerships aimed at enhancing cooperation in the military and defence fields. These interactions focused on exchanging expertise and fostering collaboration among global defence entities.
GAMI’s participation in international exhibitions like Farnborough reflects its goal of showcasing the Kingdom's military industries sector capabilities. This involvement underscores its role in building a vibrant economy by developing an encouraging investment environment for military industries.
Unified Platform for Services
Through its unified platform on its website, GAMI offers a range of services related to military licensing, human capital development, standards and specifications, localisation, and military industries. These services are available to individuals, local companies, government entities, and educational institutions.
The authority also highlighted significant accomplishments in developing industrial and service capabilities within the Kingdom. These efforts align with GAMI’s strategic objective of ensuring substantial domestic spending on military equipment by 2030.
This comprehensive approach by GAMI aims to bolster Saudi Arabia's position as a key player in the global defence industry while supporting national economic growth through localisation initiatives.
