Saudi GACA Highlights Aviation Innovation At Farnborough Airshow 2024 In UK

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) of Saudi Arabia concluded its participation in several events in the UK, coinciding with the Farnborough International Airshow 2024. The airshow took place from July 22 to 26 at Farnborough Airport. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej, President of GACA, led the delegation and reviewed investment opportunities enabled by the National Aviation Strategy.

During their visit, GACA held a roundtable meeting with the Saudi-British Business Council. This meeting focused on enhancing investment relations between Saudi Arabia and the UK. Discussions included developing high-quality investments and enabling private sector benefits in both countries. Efforts to strengthen economic and investment ties were also addressed.

GACA's UK Airshow Innovation Tour

On the sidelines of the exhibition, GACA signed a memorandum of cooperation with Lilium, a German company known for manufacturing vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft. This agreement aims to develop regulatory frameworks for advanced air mobility in Saudi Arabia. It aligns with GACA's efforts to establish regulations that encourage growth while ensuring safety and security.

Al-Duailej and his delegation explored modern technologies offered by participating companies in civil aviation during their visit to the exhibition. They were briefed on innovations in advanced air mobility, space, and sustainability. The delegation also visited Cranfield University in Britain to learn about its research in aviation sciences and digital air traffic control technologies.

The Saudi Air Navigation Services Company (SANS) signed a framework agreement with NATS, the British Air Traffic Control Company, to enhance airport capacity. Additionally, SANS signed a memorandum of understanding involving the Saudi Academy of Civil Aviation, Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz University, and Cranfield University. This agreement aims to develop aviation science research and exchange expertise between specialists.

Aircraft Purchase Agreements

flynas, Saudi Arabia's leading low-cost air carrier, signed an agreement with Airbus to purchase 160 new aircraft. This includes 30 wide-body A330neo aircraft and 130 single-aisle aircraft from the A320 family models. With this deal, flynas' total aircraft purchase orders will reach 280 within seven years.

The delegation's activities highlight GACA's commitment to fostering growth and innovation in the aviation industry through strategic partnerships and technological advancements. These efforts are part of broader initiatives under Saudi Arabia's National Aviation Strategy.

The agreements and collaborations formed during these events aim to enhance airport capacity, develop aviation research, and explore new technologies in civil aviation. These steps are crucial for advancing Saudi Arabia's position in the global aviation sector while ensuring safety and efficiency.

GACA’s engagement at Farnborough International Airshow 2024 underscores its dedication to leveraging international cooperation for developing advanced air mobility solutions. This approach is expected to contribute significantly to the Kingdom’s aviation sector growth.
