Saudi Aviation Leader Explores Electric Aircraft Innovations At BETA Technologies, US
President Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) led a delegation to BETA Technologies in South Burlington, Vermont. The group included officials from GACA, the Ministry of Investment, the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, and representatives from local private-sector companies like NEOM and Saudia Aerospace Engineering Industries (SAEI).
The visit to BETA Technologies' factory highlighted Saudi Arabia's commitment to advanced air mobility technologies. The delegation examined production lines for electric aircraft and vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. They also reviewed the latest infrastructure technologies used by the factory and observed the operation of charging stations.

During their tour, they visited research and development centres to learn about carbon-free manufacturing technologies. The centres showcased engines that use charging cubes, which help reduce operating costs and carbon emissions. These innovations include VTOL aircraft and fully electric models for both vertical and conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL).
This visit is part of Saudi Arabia's broader strategy to enhance cooperation with leading companies in the civil aviation sector. It aims to explore opportunities for exchanging expertise in advanced air mobility. The goal is also to pursue the transfer and localisation of advanced aviation technologies while boosting research, development, and innovation cooperation.
The Advanced Air Mobility Roadmap launched by GACA earlier this year outlines these efforts. By visiting BETA Technologies, Saudi Arabia reaffirms its dedication to sustainable innovations in aviation.
"The delegation’s visit underscores our commitment to enabling advanced air mobility technologies," said a GACA spokesperson. "We aim to strengthen partnerships with global leaders in this field."
The delegation's inspection included a close look at the latest infrastructure technologies employed by BETA Technologies. They were particularly interested in how these technologies could be adapted for use in Saudi Arabia.
Exploring Sustainable Innovations
BETA Technologies specialises in producing electric aircraft and VTOL aircraft. Their focus on sustainable innovations aligns with Saudi Arabia's goals for reducing carbon emissions in aviation.
The company's research into engines that rely on charging cubes was a key point of interest during the visit. These engines are designed to lower both operating costs and environmental impact.
The visit concluded with discussions on potential collaborations between Saudi entities and BETA Technologies. Both parties expressed interest in future partnerships aimed at advancing air mobility technologies.
The delegation's tour of BETA Technologies' facilities marks a significant step towards achieving these goals. By fostering international cooperation, Saudi Arabia aims to lead in sustainable aviation advancements.
