GACA Showcases Innovative Passenger Experience Initiatives At International Civil Aviation Forum 2024 In Shanghai
The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) recently engaged in a session titled "The Regulatory Authority’s Role in Transforming the Passenger Experience in the Kingdom." This event was part of the International Civil Aviation Forum 2024, held in Shanghai, China, on November 21-22. During this session, Abdulaziz Al-Dahmash, GACA's Executive Vice President for Quality and Passenger Experience, discussed various initiatives aimed at enhancing passenger experiences.
Al-Dahmash explained that GACA has implemented several programs to improve passenger experiences by adhering to ambitious standards and global best practices. These efforts are supported by data analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) to meet the objectives of the National Aviation Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030. The focus is on advancing the aviation sector through these strategic initiatives.

Saudi Arabia is concentrating on expanding its infrastructure to accommodate an anticipated increase in passenger numbers to 330 million annually by 2030. This includes constructing new airports like King Salman International Airport and enlarging existing ones to handle increased traffic. Enhancing operational efficiency through optimized systems is also a priority to improve passenger experiences.
GACA's ongoing efforts include developing programs that align with passenger expectations. One such initiative involves applying AI technologies, such as the "Digital System for Managing and Monitoring Passenger Movement" project. This system allows real-time tracking of waiting times at Saudi airports, significantly enhancing operational efficiency.
Another innovative initiative highlighted by Al-Dahmash is the "Baggage-Free Passenger" program. This program enables passengers to complete travel and baggage procedures from their residence, streamlining the travel process. During its pilot phase, it benefited over 1 million passengers and facilitated the transfer of more than 2 million pieces of luggage.
The regulatory frameworks developed by GACA have notably improved airport services across Saudi Arabia. These enhancements have led to increased passenger satisfaction and recognition through local and international awards for several airports. Such achievements underscore GACA's success in elevating passenger experience standards.
Global Recognition and Sharing Best Practices
GACA has also showcased its passenger experience enhancement programs at international conferences. These presentations serve as model practices from which regulatory authorities worldwide can benefit. By sharing these successful strategies, GACA contributes to global advancements in aviation sector standards.
The authority's commitment to improving passenger experiences reflects its dedication to achieving the goals set out in Saudi Vision 2030. Through strategic infrastructure expansion, AI integration, and innovative travel solutions, GACA continues to transform the aviation landscape within the Kingdom.
