GAC Highlights National Experience And Strengthens International Ties At Seoul Competition Forum
The General Authority for Competition (GAC) recently completed its international engagement in Seoul, South Korea, from September 3 to 5. This involved participation in the Seoul International Competition Forum, along with specialised workshops and bilateral meetings over the following two days. The GAC delegation was led by CEO Dr. Fahd Al-Shathri.
Dr. Fahd Al-Shathri took part in a main panel discussion titled "Specific Issues in the Digital Sector: E-Commerce and OTT Services." During this session, he shared Saudi Arabia's national experience in regulating competition within digital markets. He emphasised key initiatives by the GAC, such as regulating the food delivery app sector and conducting a study on cross-border e-commerce and its impact on local retailers.

In addition to the forum, Dr. Al-Shathri held a bilateral meeting with the Korea Fair Trade Commission. They explored prospects for joint cooperation, exchanging regulatory expertise, and coordinating on issues of mutual interest. This meeting aimed to strengthen ties between the two countries in terms of competition regulation.
The GAC delegation also engaged with international organisations like the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development Regional Centre for Competition (Policy Support Centre). They participated in a specialised workshop focused on digital markets, further enhancing their understanding and approach to digital market regulation.
GAC's involvement in the Seoul International Competition Forum highlights Saudi Arabia's advanced position in developing competitive policies. It reaffirms the Kingdom's commitment to strengthening its international presence while contributing to shaping future digital market regulations that support consumer interests and foster a healthy business environment.
