Future Skills Initiative Launched To Enhance Skills Development In Saudi-British Partnership

The Future Skills Initiative was recently introduced by Minister of Commerce Majid Al-Kassabi. This launch is part of the Saudi-British Strategic Partnership Council and coincides with the Human Capability Initiative Conference. The initiative, supported by HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, aims to enhance skills in 13 key economic sectors such as trade, investment, and healthcare.

Over 40 government officials and more than 100 business leaders from Saudi Arabia and the UK attended the event. The initiative seeks to foster expertise exchange and prepare individuals for future challenges in sectors like energy, education, and tourism. This effort underscores a commitment to developing human capabilities across diverse fields.

During the event, Al-Kassabi chaired a high-level meeting with notable figures including Minister of Education Yousef Al-Benyan and Deputy Minister of Sports Bader bin Abdulrahman Al-Kadi. From the UK side, participants included MP Stephen Morgan and British Ambassador Neil Crompton. Discussions focused on sector opportunities and bridging skills gaps identified in earlier workshops.

A significant agreement was signed between the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation (Misk) and London Business School. This partnership aims to promote leadership development, academic collaborations, research initiatives, and executive education. The agreement also involves preparing for the Riyadh campus launch by handing over the school's commercial registration.

Five additional agreements were formalised at the event. These include a partnership between Sherborne British School and Maarif Education Company, as well as a joint executive program in technical training between the UK's Department of Trade and Industry and Saudi Arabia’s Technical and Vocational Training Corporation.

Further memoranda of cooperation were established with institutions such as University College London and Imperial College London. These collaborations aim to enhance educational professional development through partnerships with entities like the National Institute for Educational Professional Development.

Engagement with British Institutions

The EDGex exhibition featured participation from 15 British educational institutions and companies. This engagement highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen ties between Saudi Arabia and UK educational sectors. Such collaborations are crucial for expanding experiential learning programs through university-private sector cooperation.

The initiative's focus on enhancing skills across various sectors aligns with broader goals of fostering innovation and economic growth. By addressing skills gaps, it aims to create a workforce equipped for future challenges while promoting international collaboration in education.
