World Governments Summit: Steering Future Cities Towards Prosperity

At the World Governments Summit (WGS), a pivotal platform for global dialogue, discussions have consistently centered around the evolution of future cities through digital innovation. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, delivered a keynote speech on the "7 Key Principles for Future Cities," underscoring the intrinsic link between the destiny of cities and the future of humanity.

In a move to bolster this vision, the World Governments Summit Organisation unveiled a report in 2021 titled "Security by Design: Safe and Secure Smart Cities in a Volatile Cyber World." This document underscored the critical need for governments to fortify their information and communication technologies against cyber threats, emphasizing the importance of cyber awareness among stakeholders. Following this, the 2022 report "Future of Cities: Three Principles for Digital Transformation in Cities" shed light on the imperative of digital transformation for city readiness, showcasing innovations such as Dubai's citizen happiness app.

Naim Yazbeck, General Manager at Microsoft UAE, during his participation at the WGS, highlighted the significance of leveraging advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) to propel social and economic development. He specifically called for increased investment in AI and modern applications within Arab countries to spur growth in crucial sectors like education. Yazbeck's insights align with the broader theme of building smart cities that are not only technologically advanced but also secure from emerging cyber threats.
