Fujairah F3 Independent Power Producer Project Commences Full Commercial Operations In UAE

The Fujairah F3 Independent Power Producer (IPP) project has begun full commercial operations, as announced by Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA), Marubeni Corporation, Mubadala Investment Company, and Hokuriku Electric Power Company. Situated in Qidfa, Fujairah, this 2.4-gigawatt facility is among the UAE's largest and most efficient gas-fired power plants.

Fujairah F3 utilises Mitsubishi Power's JAC-class gas turbine technology within an advanced Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) setup. This configuration ensures high thermal efficiency, quick response times, and low emissions. The plant can supply electricity to around 380,000 homes while aiding the UAE's transition to renewable energy sources.

Fujairah F3 Project Starts Full Operations

TAQA holds a 40% stake in the project company, with Marubeni Corporation owning 20.4%, Mubadala 20%, and Hokuriku Electric Power 19.6%. EWEC procures all electricity from the project under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Andreas Collor of TAQA highlighted that Fujairah F3 is crucial for meeting rising power demands and integrating more renewables into the grid.

Mohamed Almarzooqi from EWEC emphasised that Fujairah F3's operations mark a significant achievement in strategic energy infrastructure development. The plant provides transitional capacity, supporting large-scale renewable energy integration while maintaining grid reliability during peak demand periods.

Dr. Alyazia Ali Al Kuwaiti‏ of Mubadala noted that this project enhances national energy security and supports local communities while advancing Mubadala's Net Zero goals. Naoki Ito from Marubeni Corporation stated that this initiative showcases international partnerships' positive impact on addressing regional energy needs.

Commitment to Sustainable Energy

Masayoshi Hayashi of Hokuriku Electric Power Company expressed commitment to delivering reliable, efficient, low-emission electricity in the UAE through this project. Les Graham of Fujairah Power Company F3 LLC mentioned that the plant's efficiency will support further growth of intermittent renewable energy in line with a sustainable grid vision.

Fujairah F3 plays a pivotal role in EWEC’s strategy to increase renewable and clean energy shares in electricity generation. Its flexible operations complement intermittent renewable energy integration into the grid, fostering a modern, decarbonised energy system.

This facility significantly boosts the UAE’s electricity generation capacity, demonstrating the country's dedication to deploying technologies that reduce emissions and enhance efficiency for sustainable development.
