Ar Sy's Inspiring Journey From Street Vendor To Champion Coach At Esports World Cup In Riyadh

Ar Sy, a Filipino coach, has become a notable figure at the Esports World Cup (EWC) in Riyadh. His journey from the streets of Manila to the global esports stage is inspiring. Ar Sy's story is one of determination and vision, rising from poverty to achieve success.

Initially, Ar Sy sold food and sweets on the streets using a wooden "tak-tak" tool. He later transitioned to selling sampaguita flowers. Over time, he expanded his small venture into a modest food cart business, offering Filipino delicacies in his neighborhood.

Ar Sy: From Vendor to Esports Champion

His culinary skills eventually landed him a position in a luxury hotel kitchen team, despite lacking formal training. It was here that Ar Sy discovered his passion for esports. He led his colleagues to victory in a workplace tournament, showcasing his tactical and leadership abilities.

This experience marked the start of his coaching career. Ar Sy then moved to Myanmar, where he built an undefeated team that won the local championship and competed internationally twice.

Following his success in Myanmar, Ar Sy caught the attention of Team Liquid. Initially joining them for the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League in the Philippines, he quickly gained recognition for his unique coaching style.

After several impressive performances, Team Liquid appointed him as technical director. At the 2025 Esports World Cup, Ar Sy led Team Liquid to their second global title after winning the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid-Season Cup.

Historic Victory

Team Liquid became the first team to win two EWC championships under Ar Sy's leadership. In the final match, they dominated with a 4-1 victory over Selangor Red Giants, securing a $1 million prize for first place.

Speaking with the Saudi Press Agency, Ar Sy praised the EWC's organization. He described it as one of the best tournaments he has attended due to its prize value and attention to players' experiences. "It was one of the best tournaments I have ever attended," he said.
