Minister Saleh Al-Jasser Lays Foundation Stone For New Logistics Corridor Connecting Jeddah Islamic Port To Al-Khomra Zone

A significant logistics project has commenced in Saudi Arabia, aiming to link Jeddah Islamic Port with the Al-Khomra Logistics Zone. The initiative, spearheaded by Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh Al-Jasser, involves a dedicated 17-kilometre truck lane. This strategic corridor is valued at over SAR689 million and is expected to enhance cargo movement efficiency.

The new logistics corridor will feature two lanes in each direction and include 12 bridges. This design aims to facilitate seamless cargo transport between the port and logistics zone without using Jeddah's internal roads. The project also incorporates emergency exits, maintenance access points, and a rainwater drainage system to ensure smooth operations.

Al-Jasser highlighted the project's potential to boost operational efficiency and increase the port's handling capacity by 10%. He stated, "This direct logistics corridor will significantly enhance operational efficiency, increase the port's handling capacity by 10%, and support the integration of various transportation modes." These improvements are expected to optimise supply chain operations and infrastructure.

The corridor is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion in Jeddah by redirecting trucks away from public roads. This change aims to improve road safety while reducing emissions, thus lessening environmental impact. The project promises broad benefits for logistics firms, importers, exporters, and shipping lines through streamlined container movement.

Chairman of Mawani Eng. Sulaiman Al-Mazroua attended the foundation stone ceremony alongside other senior officials from Saudi Arabia's transport sector. Their presence underscores the project's importance in advancing the Kingdom's logistics capabilities.
