Forum On Translation And AI Opens In Korea To Discuss Opportunities And Challenges

The King Abdulaziz Public Library and the General Secretariat of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Award for Translation, in collaboration with Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, have initiated a scientific forum in Seoul, South Korea. This event accompanies the award ceremony for the 11th edition winners. The forum, titled "Translation and AI: opportunities and challenges," brought together experts in translation and AI technologies.

Faisal bin Muaammar, General Supervisor of the King Abdulaziz Public Library, delivered an opening speech. He highlighted Saudi Arabia's cultural initiatives, emphasizing that translation and innovation are key to its vision for cultural development. He stated that knowledge is limitless and investing in innovative minds is invaluable.

Translation and AI Forum Launches in Korea

The forum served as a platform for dialogue on AI's potential in shaping translation's future amid digital transformation. Faisal bin Muaammar expressed hope that it would inspire creative ideas and foster meaningful exchanges across various fields. He described it as an opportunity to explore AI’s impact on translation.

Jeong-Woon Park, President of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, commended the library's significant role in Saudi Arabia’s cultural landscape. He noted its evolution into a leading institution preserving Arab and Islamic heritage while promoting global research and cultural exchange.

The forum included two sessions. The first session examined AI tools in translation, their effects on translators, and innovative teaching methods for literary translation using these technologies. It also addressed ethical issues related to intellectual property rights with machine-generated translations.

The second session focused on Arabic-Korean translation, emphasizing publishing houses' roles in cultural exchange through AI. It reviewed strategies for responsibly adopting modern translation technologies amid rapid technological changes.

Jeong-Woon Park affirmed that the library’s commitment provides a strong foundation for rich discussions at the forum. He praised its dedication to supporting scholarship and cultural exchange globally while advancing research efforts.

This event underscores Saudi Arabia's dedication to fostering dialogue on technological advancements in translation. By bringing together experts from diverse fields, it aims to inspire new ideas and promote knowledge sharing across disciplines.
