Food Tech Valley Partners With Spinneys To Establish New Food Processing Facility In UAE

Food Tech Valley, a UAE initiative focused on creating a sustainable food ecosystem, has reached a significant milestone. A 27-year agreement was signed with Spinneys, a leading supermarket chain. This partnership will see Spinneys establish a 500,000 sq. ft. processing facility in Food Tech Valley. The facility is expected to become operational soon and aims to enhance innovation in food processing, aligning with Dubai's vision of becoming a leader in sustainable food technologies.

The collaboration between Food Tech Valley and Spinneys reflects the UAE's dedication to improving food security and sustainability. Rashed Mohammad, Chief Real-Estate Officer of Wasl, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. "We welcome Spinneys to Food Tech Valley and look forward to working closely with them on their ambitious journey to provide UAE consumers with sustainably grown, high-quality food supplies," he stated.

Sunil Kumar, CEO of Spinneys, highlighted the importance of this partnership for their growth plans. "As a homegrown brand, we are committed to the well-being of our customers, our communities, and the UAE ecosystem," he said. He emphasised that Spinneys has always supported local farmers and producers, making this collaboration even more significant.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched Food Tech Valley to attract industry leaders and innovators. This initiative aims to facilitate pioneering projects and provide an ideal platform for companies like Spinneys to innovate and expand their operations. The project underscores Dubai's commitment to transforming its food sector into a hub for innovation.

With over 90 percent of food in the UAE being imported and demand expected to rise by 50 percent by 2030, Food Tech Valley will play a crucial role in developing a sustainable food ecosystem. This aligns with the UAE government's goal of becoming one of the top nations in the Global Food Security Index by 2051.

Comprehensive Infrastructure for Innovation

Food Tech Valley is designed as a catalyst for transforming the UAE into a global hub for tech-based agricultural solutions. It supports the UAE Food Security National Strategy 2051 through connectivity, innovation, and business growth facilitation in food tech. The project includes production zones, warehousing facilities, an innovation centre, an academy, and residential areas.
