FNC Speaker Saqr Ghobash And Azerbaijan Prime Minister Ali Asadov Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation
During an official visit to Azerbaijan, Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), met with Ali Asadov, Prime Minister of Azerbaijan. The meeting took place at the Cabinet headquarters in Baku. Ghobash was there to attend the International Parliamentary Conference marking the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan's Constitution.
Prime Minister Asadov warmly welcomed Ghobash and his delegation. He expressed Azerbaijan's eagerness to strengthen cooperation and partnership with the UAE. Asadov praised the steady development of bilateral relations, which are driven by the leaderships of both nations.

Ghobash conveyed greetings from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He expressed appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality extended by Azerbaijan. Ghobash also wished for continued progress and prosperity for Azerbaijan and its citizens.
The UAE-Azerbaijan relationship is experiencing a significant phase of strategic partnership, according to Ghobash. This development is underpinned by a shared vision between their leaderships. He highlighted President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's visit to Azerbaijan in September 2025 as a pivotal moment when a Comprehensive Partnership Agreement was announced.
The signing of this agreement has paved the way for further advancements in bilateral relations across various sectors. Ghobash emphasized the importance of enhancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries.
Focus on Economic Growth
The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) has been instrumental in boosting non-oil trade between the UAE and Azerbaijan. In 2024, trade reached approximately US$2.4 billion, reflecting a 43 percent increase compared to 2023. This growth underscores the depth of their economic ties.
Asadov acknowledged joint efforts in sectors such as economic development, investment, renewable energy, education, and innovation. He commended the UAE's regional and international role in promoting security, stability, and sustainable development.
Support for Islamic Initiatives
Ghobash affirmed the UAE’s support for Azerbaijan hosting the 16th Islamic Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in 2026. This support recognises Azerbaijan's significant role in supporting Islamic causes and promoting joint Islamic action.
The meeting was attended by Mohammed Murad Alblooshi, UAE Ambassador to Azerbaijan, along with several senior officials from both countries.
