Flynas Achieves Major Sustainability Goals In 2024 With Carbon Offsetting And Emission Reductions

In 2024, flynas made strides in sustainability by focusing on three main areas: carbon offsetting, impactful societal initiatives, and digital transformation. This led to enhanced operational efficiency and a reduction of 625,152 tons of carbon emissions over four years, equivalent to planting 25 million trees by the end of the year.

flynas joined forces with 22 major Saudi and international companies in November 2024 to participate in the first voluntary carbon credit trading platform. This initiative was launched by the Regional Voluntary Carbon Market Company (RVCMC), a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF). The platform aims to boost high-quality carbon credits' supply and demand across the Global South, supporting climate projects that need funding and aiding the transition towards net-zero global emissions.

flynas Sustainability Achievements in 2024

Earlier in 2024, flynas signed an agreement with RVCMC to collaborate on carbon offsetting and environmental protection. This strategic partnership aligns with Saudi Arabia's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060 and fulfilling commitments under the global climate agreement. The airline also reduced its carbon footprint by over 625,000 tons of CO₂ through sustainable operations.

The airline upgraded its fleet, now consisting of 53 next-generation Airbus A320neo aircraft. These planes are known for their advanced fuel efficiency, reducing CO₂ emissions by an average of 13,024 tons monthly. This is comparable to planting 521,000 trees each month. The A320neo aircraft offer a 25% improvement in fuel efficiency and cut CO₂ emissions by 21% per 100 kilometers compared to older models.

flynas launched a pioneering initiative in Saudi aviation by introducing training programs for flight attendants in sign language and specialized training for interacting with autistic passengers. Announced in January 2024, this initiative was developed with the Saudi Association for Hearing Impairment and the Saudi Autism Society. It ensures at least one crew member proficient in sign language is on every flight.

The program includes theoretical education and practical training for flight attendants and ground staff. It teaches effective communication techniques for passengers with hearing impairments and autism. Strategies are introduced to provide a comfortable environment for passengers on the autism spectrum, enhancing their travel experience.

Community Engagement

flynas sponsored medical flights for autistic passengers in partnership with the Society of Autism Families during World Autism Awareness Day on April 2. Throughout the year, flynas will provide travel vouchers for up to ten autistic passengers and their companions each month. Additionally, flynas is sponsoring 120 airline tickets for breast cancer patients undergoing treatment in collaboration with the Zahra Association.

The airline participated as the official sponsor of the 6th Annual Forum for Families of People with Disabilities from December 2-4, coinciding with International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3. In December 2024, flynas launched a tree-planting initiative involving employees who can digitally track tree growth stages through individual digital accounts.

Technological Advancements

flynas enhanced its digital services by launching a new version of its mobile application that improves self-service options for travelers. This upgrade offers greater flexibility in trip management and easier access to key services. Additionally, flynas relaunched its Holidays platform (nasholidays), adding six new languages and over twenty currency payment options.

This upgrade provides an integrated travel booking experience where guests can book flights, hotels, transportation, travel insurance, and curated experiences through one unified platform. Furthermore, flynas collaborated with the Saudi Investment Recycling Company (SIRC) to recycle approximately 400 pieces of equipment as part of its broader commitment to sustainability.

flynas has demonstrated significant progress across various sustainability tracks throughout 2024. By integrating social initiatives with technological advancements while focusing on environmental goals, flynas continues to align its efforts with global climate objectives.
