Kuwait's Traffic Congestion Drops by 30% Thanks to Flexible Working Hours
Kuwait has seen a notable decrease in traffic congestion by 30% following the introduction of "flexible working hours" in 24 government agencies last year. This initiative is part of broader efforts to address the long-standing issue of traffic congestion in the country. In response to this ongoing challenge, a coalition of nine government agencies has been formed to devise permanent solutions.
The Council of Ministers has directed these agencies, which include the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Public Works among others, to work together on developing a comprehensive strategy. In an effort to build on the success of flexible working hours, discussions are underway about introducing an evening shift system in the early part of next year. Additionally, various strategies are being considered to optimize the distribution of new employees by taking into account their residential locations, determining which roles are suitable for remote work, and promoting the use of school buses among students.
The Ministry of Interior, via the General Traffic Department, is spearheading these initiatives, ensuring that the plans are executed within the set timeframe. To bolster these efforts, the Traffic Congestion Committee, under the auspices of the Ministry of Public Works, has been reactivated.
