Dubai Government Implements Flexible Remote Work Policy For Employees During Ramadan 2025
In an effort to create a more flexible and comfortable work setting, the Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) has introduced a new policy for government employees during Ramadan 1446 Hijri (2025).
This move, initiated under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, is part of a broader approach to enhance the working conditions across the city.
The policy grants Dubai Government employees up to three flexible working hours, provided they complete 5.5 hours from Monday to Thursday and three hours on Friday. Furthermore, employees are permitted to work remotely for up to two days a week, depending on the job requirements, work conditions, and the nature of their responsibilities.
This initiative aligns with Dubai's declaration of 2025 as the "Year of Community," underscoring the importance of community values in the workplace. By adjusting work schedules, the DGHR aims to foster an environment where employees can fulfill their religious obligations and spend more time with their families during this significant period, all while ensuring that work efficiency and public service delivery are not compromised.
To facilitate the smooth implementation of this policy, the DGHR has stipulated that employees must coordinate their schedules and remote work plans with their direct managers. This coordination is crucial to maintaining operational efficiency and ensuring that the quality of public services remains unaffected. The flexible work arrangements are designed to meet the diverse needs of government workers, taking into account the varying demands of different roles and departments.
Beyond its immediate impact on government employees, this policy serves as an encouragement to private businesses in Dubai to adopt similar flexible working arrangements during Ramadan.
By setting a precedent, the Dubai Government hopes to inspire the wider business community to consider the wellbeing of their employees and the benefits of flexible work schedules. Such measures can lead to enhanced employee satisfaction, increased productivity, and a more harmonious work environment.
